The permanent exhibition All the lifelong day! The triumphs and tragedies of a working-class neighbourhood tells the tale of the Centre-Sud. Objects and photographs retrace its history while the testimonies of residents and community workers evoke its memory and its evolution.

Immerse yourself in history

Discovering the site of the Écomusée is alone worth the visit. Since 1996, the Écomusée has been situated in the former Généreux public bath. The building, erected in 1927, long responded to the hygiene needs of numerous neighbourhood residents – those who occupied lodgings without bath and shower installations. It reflects an entire era and a part of the life of the Centre-Sud.

Écomusée du fier monde

Founded in 1980, the Écomusée du fier monde is at once a museum of industrial history and a community museum. Accredited by the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Écomusée explores the history of labour and highlights the heritage of Montréal’s Centre-Sud. It develops a museum practice founded on popular education and encourages community participation in its activities. The Écomusée du fier monde is a museum that evokes the pride of neighbourhood residents and their capacity to take charge of their lives.
